Comienza sus estudios primarios en su ciudad natal, después, se trasladó a la Ciudad de México para ingresar a la Escuela Nacional Preparatoria con la intención de cursar la licenciatura en Derecho, pero abandonó la carrera para dedicarse al periodismo al revelar su verdadera vocación. Luis G. Urbina patrocinó las actividades iniciales en el periodismo con colaboraciones en El Mundo Ilustrado, la Revista Moderna y El Imparcial. Su primera obra poética apareció en 1915, con el título de Holocaustos. Después publicó los siguientes libros de poemas: La hora del Ticiano con prólogo de Francisco Villaespesa en [[1917]; Música suave en 1921; El inútil dolor con prólogo de José Juan Tablada en 1923; Espuma de mar en 1936; Poesías selectas en 1937 y Cartas sin sobre y posdatas de sonetos en 1957.
