ENGINEERING OBJECTIVES The Avantone Mix Tower Studio Reference Monitors are designed to be dynamic, high SPL, high resolution, full-range active reference monitors. We included precise, no-compromise drivers in a compact format that complements modern production environments. Providing two distinct modes of operation, the MixTower allows full range monitoring and MixCube mode. PERFORMANCE OBJECTIVE Studios primarily use 2-way and 3-way large monitors designed to represent a wide range reference viewpoint at higher listening levels. However, in the newly developing age of High Definition Audio, there is still a need to hear what your mix will sound like when played back over small "bass-challenged" systems such as televisions, clock radios, computers, car stereos, iPod docking stations, etc. It is important to make mixing judgments based partially on listening to reference monitors that will not impart tonal anomalies caused by crossovers or inferior full range drivers. Without needing to look, you can click the knobs into 4 different positions each, giving you 16 possible EQ settings that are simple to engage. Choose the one that sounds best for DJing or producing music in your home or studio, depending on the shape, size, and construction of the room. LOW EQ Use this to adjust the bass, depending on the location of your speaker and the kind of sound you want for DJing or producing music. L1: ROOM 1 – This setting reduces the bass (6 dB HPF applied at 63 Hz) and is effective when your speaker is near a wall or at times when you don’t want heavy bass, e.g. late at night. L2: FLAT – Flat frequency response for a true sound. This is the most popular setting for producing music in an acoustically treated room. L3: ROOM 2 – This setting increases the bass (2.5 dB boost using a bell EQ at 50 Hz) and is ideal to use when you need some extra punch, e.g. in a large space. L4: CLUB BASS – More power in the bass (5 dB boost using a bell EQ at 50 Hz, and 2 dB boost using a bell EQ at 200 Hz), for a club-like sound. This setting is the best to use when you want as much bass as possible, e.g. for parties. HIGH EQ Use this to adjust the treble, depending on the location of your speaker and the kind of sound you want for DJing or producing music. H1: ROOM 1 – This setting reduces the volume of high frequencies (3 dB reduction using a high shelf EQ from 3.5 kHz to 12 kHz) and is effective when the room is reverberant and the high frequencies are overpowering. Tech Talk Every ThunderStorm subwoofer has detailed controls like switchable satellite filters (full range and 80Hz), phase switch controls (0°, 180°). and variable subwoofer filter frequencies (60....140Hz) to let you tailor and adjust your ThunderStorm to your specific room. The TS107 is the smallest model in the range of EVE Audio subwoofers and features a very efficient 100W PWM amplifier that drives a proprietary 6.5" woofer. This guarantees a frequency response of down to 36Hz up to 300 Hz, for a maximum output power of 102 dB (SPL @ 1m). The included remote control will let you adjust not only the subwoofer's volume but also the complete stereo system's volume while sitting comfortably in your sweet spot. All in all, the ThunderStorm subwoofers will make any system sound better and more complete. The suspension of the passive radiator has a restoring force underneath its tuning frequency and reduces inaudible excursions in the subsonic range. Application Active Recording / Mixdown Monitors Engineering Objective The Avantone Active Mixcubes are designed to be high-resolution, full-range powered mini-reference monitors for fixed or remote locations. The secondary engineering facet was to create a timeless design that compliments a single full-range transducer. Performance Objective Studios primarily use 2-way & 3-way larger monitors designed to represent a wide range reference viewpoint at higher listening levels. However, in this newly developing age of High Definition Audio, there is still a need to also hear what your mix will sound like when played back over small “bass-challenged” systems such as televisions, clock radios, computers, car stereos, iPod docking stations, etc. It is important to make mixing judgments based partially on listening to reference monitors that will not impart tonal anomalies caused by crossovers or inferior full range drivers. Particular attention is always paid to the critical mid-range vocal/guitar/keyboard areas. This is where having a full-range monitor without a crossover is truly revealing. Ten months of R&D comparative listening & tweaking went into the voicing of the AVANTONE MixCubes. The result is a very smooth sounding, full range upgrade from the original 5C Sound Cubes. Listening tests reveal that the MixCubes have a smooth, more open, transparent top end response with extended bass while maintaining their basic original character. Cabinet Design The original 5C Sound Cubes™ were made of ½” particleboard covered with a glue-on wood grain contact paper. We chose to use thicker, denser MDF board because of its high rigidity and inherent low-resonance characteristics. We started with a 165mm (6 1/2") sealed cube design with radiused edges. We then chose an elegant Polyurethane high gloss “RETRO-CREAM” finish. The originals had either screws or on later models plastic binding posts mounted on a recessed plastic cup. We upgraded to high-end nickel plated, machined solid metal binding posts (Dual banana spacing) mounted on a black anodized ,milled and silk-screened aluminum terminal plate. Next we added a 7mm thick neoprene pad embedded into the base of the cabinet to serve as a skid-resistant acoustic isolator. Additionally, for creative mounting situations, we recessed an industry standard 5/8”-27 mic stand mount into the base. Driver Design The originals were a basic 5” stamped frame design. We designed a proprietary 5.25” die cast aluminum frame driver/cone assembly to exceed the performance of the originals. The mounting bezel is then polished for an elegant appearance. The paper cone, chosen for its musical character, is custom designed & crafted using the finest New Zealand pulp with mica fibers added for lighter weight & rigidity. The cloth surround is made in Japan to exacting uniform thickness tolerances. The Top Plate and T-Yoke of driver are made of Sumitomo 1008 low carbon steel enabling the highest modeled flux density in the gap. The magnets are Y- 40 GRADE (MIL-SPEC) yielding a 43oz. High Power-low distortion motor structure. Amplifier Design We designed the amp module from the ground up to be a true professional-grade amplifier. It incorporates “overkill” concepts in component selection as well as safety. The result is a “no-compromise” amp with robust headroom characteristics that will rival the performance of much higher priced studio rack mount amps. For unbalanced operation with a TS connector the minus signal is automatically grounded. System Gain: This variable control adjusts the sensitivity of the signal that appears at the input. Rotating the control clockwise increases the sensitivity while a counter-clockwise rotation decreases sensitivity. The adjustable gain range is from -30 to +6 dB. A setting of +6 allows a full, unimpeded signal to be sent to the amplifier. The detented gain positions allow for repeatable settings between speakers for proper matching. Please Note… when the signal appearing at the input is too hot, the amplifier can overload causing distortion and possible damage to the speaker. If overload occurs, attenuate (decrease) the input level by turning the knob counter-clockwise a few clicks. On/Off Switch: This illuminated switch turns the amplifier section on and off. The unit is still receiving power from the transformer however. AC Input: This input is only to be use with the proprietary AVANTONE Power Supply. Tighten the cable/connector securely for reliable operation. Note: There is a switch on the power supply for selecting the proper AC/MAINS operating voltage for your location. Ground Lift Switch: By engaging this switch the pin 1 shield is lifted at the input jack. This can be used to aid in ground loop control of the incoming analog line signal. Placement: When positioning the Avantone Active MixCubes on stands or console bridges it is best to keep them at ear level and slightly angled in towards the engineer. Since they are shielded it is ok to place them near a CRT video monitor or TV without causing any problems. The bottom mic stand mounts will also allow you creative positioning options in unusual studio playback situations.

Tech Talk With the SC208, you will be able to extend your bass frequency response down to 36 Hz. Our custom-made 8" SilverCone woofer driven by a sophisticated low distortion copper cap magnet systemwith our 1.5" voice coil will guarantee that you will not run out of bass response when it comes to the critical listening and comparison of your mixes. The result is a very tight and dynamic bass, along with the usual greater linear excursion provided in every other EVE Audio model. Our PWM amplifier, with protection-limiting, is able to deliver a short-term output power of 150W for a maximum output level of 112 dB (SPL @ 1m). So you can be sure that there will be plenty of power to make critical and precise judgements over your mixes. The SC208 also uses our proprietary AMT (Air Motion Transformer) RS2. The RS2 stands for Ribbon System 2, meaning it has a bigger front plate and a larger magnet driving the motion with the utmost efficiency. As with every other EVE Audio speaker, you get both balanced XLR inputs and unbalanced RCA inputs for greater convenience. DSP With every EVE Audio speaker, you also get high resolution DSP electronics. One push knob operation and you will have access to accurate volume control and several different filter settings that will help you tailor your monitors to the way you work. If you always avoid digital processing, we've got you covered. The DSP engine is supported with a high quality A/D converter (24bit/192kHz) from Burr-Brown, which delivers a pristine signal to the DSP section. Bass Port Design It's all in the geometry. One of the downside effects of port compression is bass distortion. As you turn up the volume, the efficiency of the port reduces and distortion will increase. We opted for a large rear rectangular port with no hard edges for our bass port designs. That's one of the reasons EVE monitors have a high efficiency on the lower frequencies. The results? High sound pressures with tight and punchy bass frequencies that don't cause port distortion. Crank up the volume, and EVE will deliver a round bass. And with no holes to look at every time you glance at your speakers. The KH 420 is a three-way tri-amplified monitor with thermally protected Class AB amplifiers (330 W and two times 140 W). Just like the drivers, its Mathematically Modeled Dispersion™ (MMD™) waveguide is engineered for optimum precision. Sound distributed in a horizontally precise manner ensures flexibility in the listening position; the narrower vertical dispersion reduces the negative effects of nearby reflections, for example from a desk or mixing console. The dispersion of the KH 420 is deliberately designed to be narrower, to guarantee reference sound at longer working distances. BEST WORKING ENVIRONMENT: CLOSE TO PROFESSIONAL EARS The KH 420 is designed for midfield applications and as main monitor in project, music, broadcast and post-production studios for recording, mixing and mastering. And in a multi-channel system, it can also be freely combined with all other Neumann studio monitors. PORTS AND HIGH DYNAMICS: NO LONGER A CONTRADICTION With its tri-channel amplifiers the KH 420 also realizes sound pressures of up to 122.4 dB. And it thereby retains high-resolution and neutral representation across the entire frequency response. This also includes an exceptional bass response down to 26 Hz. Despite using ports, there is no “overhang” or audible resonance in the low frequency range and the transient response is precisely controlled at all times. The computer modeled chassis is constructed of LRIM™ materials which eliminates standing wave resonances and suppresses intermodulation distortion, especially in the midrange. For demanding treble, our own specially developed, powerful alloy fabric dome ensures distortion-free reproduction. The fabric dome captures the midrange with utmost precision. Its ultralight material and the powerful neodymium magnet enable a significantly better transient response with considerably less distortion than comparable midrange drivers. DIGITAL INPUT AND DELAY OPTION The Digital Input Module DIM 1 expands the loudspeaker electronics by a digital XLR input, a digital BNC input and a digital BNC output (192 kHz/24 Bit) for flexible digital signal links. With the delay function (adjustment range 0 - 400 ms) of the DIM 1, the audio signal can be delayed to ensure audio-visual synchronization (lip sync). In addition, the high resolution of the delays (0.1 ms) allows equalization of the propagation delays. The delay can be added to both inputs (digital and analog). The KH 420 can be retrofitted with a DIM 1. THE KH 750 DSP SUBWOOFER In addition to its outstanding acoustic characteristics this DSP-based subwoofer not only offers excellent acoustic properties, but - in combination with the Neumann.Control iPad® app - it also provides the possibility of adapting a KH 420 stereo pair to the room using the patented "Guided Alignment“. HUNDREDS OF GOOD REASONS FROM THE NEUMANN PHILOSOPHY The KH 420 has also been developed true to the Neumann philosophy for monitor loudspeakers. Every component, every shape, every signal and every wave motion is a consequence of this philosophy. No form or component is there without reason. The KH 310 is a three-way tri-amplified monitor with thermally protected Class AB amplifiers (210 W and two times 90 W). Its Mathematically Modeled Dispersion™ (MMD™) waveguide delivers sound waves into the room with superior accuracy. The drivers are modeled using Neumann’s in-house developed software, which reduces non-linear distortion in every situation. Sound distributed in a horizontally precise manner ensures flexibility in the listening position; the narrower vertical dispersion reduces the negative effects of nearby reflections – for example from a desk or mixing console. The precisely controlled dispersion characteristics optimize reproduction in different room configurations and the response is extremely adaptable through various acoustical control settings. BEST WORKING ENVIRONMENT: CLOSE TO PROFESSIONAL EARS The KH 310 is typically used in near-field applications such as project, music, broadcast and post-production studios for recording, mixing and mastering. It it also available as a digital input “D” version. A SOLID BASS FOUNDATION, HIGH IMPULSE FIDELITY With its powerful switched-mode power supply and tri-channel amplifiers, the KH 310 realizes sound pressure of up to 116.3 dB and thereby retains a high-resolution and neutral representation across the entire frequency response. This provides sufficient energy for even the most demanding impulse dynamics with no distortion or losses. The bass goes down to an impressive 34 Hz. The closed cabinet design means a lower group delay. This results in almost the entire frequency range being reproduced at the same time; the transient response is precisely controlled at all times. ULTRALIGHT FABRIC DOME OPTIMIZES MIDRANGE REPRODUCTION The optimized design of the driver enables a pristine sound right down to the lowest bass regions. For most applications, the rich foundation offers enough bass extension to work cleanly on the mix without the necessity of a supplementary subwoofer. For demanding treble sounds, our own specially developed, powerful alloy fabric dome ensures distortion-free clarity in the high-frequency range. The fabric midrange dome captures the middle frequency range with the utmost precision. Its ultralight material and the powerful neodymium magnet enable a significantly better transient response with considerably less distortion than comparable midrange domes. DIGITAL INPUT AND DELAY The KH 310 D enables flexible digital signal connectivity (24 bit, 192 kHz, AES3 and S/P-DIF) via a digital XLR or BNC input and buffered BNC output. Audio-visual synchronization ensures a lip sync delay of 0 to 10/12 frames. The loudspeaker can be delayed up to 400 ms, in order to compensate for varying listening distances. THE PERFECT COMPLEMENT: THE KH 750 DSP SUBWOOFER In addition to its outstanding acoustic characteristics this DSP-based subwoofer not only offers excellent acoustic properties, but - in combination with the Neumann.Control iPad® app - it also provides the possibility of adapting a KH 310 stereo pair* to the room using the patented "Guided Alignment“. HUNDREDS OF GOOD REASONS FROM THE NEUMANN PHILOSOPHY The KH 310 has been developed true to the Neumann philosophy for monitor loudspeakers. Every component, every shape, every signal and every wave motion is a consequence of this philosophy. No form or component is there without reason. There are hundreds of tangible reasons built into the KH 310, which all stand for exceptionally pure and neutral sound. These include, for example, curvatures of the housing that reduce edge diffraction. Also included is the pistonic output of the bass driver which does not give rise to harmonic distortions, even with the highest sound peaks. Some of these reasons are obvious in the KH 310. Others Neumann prefers to keep to itself. But together, each can be heard – sound professionals in both large and small studios all around the world can testify to this.
