Application Active Recording / Mixdown Monitors Engineering Objective The Avantone Active Mixcubes are designed to be high-resolution, full-range powered mini-reference monitors for fixed or remote locations. The secondary engineering facet was to create a timeless design that compliments a single full-range transducer. Performance Objective Studios primarily use 2-way & 3-way larger monitors designed to represent a wide range reference viewpoint at higher listening levels. However, in this newly developing age of High Definition Audio, there is still a need to also hear what your mix will sound like when played back over small “bass-challenged” systems such as televisions, clock radios, computers, car stereos, iPod docking stations, etc. It is important to make mixing judgments based partially on listening to reference monitors that will not impart tonal anomalies caused by crossovers or inferior full range drivers. Particular attention is always paid to the critical mid-range vocal/guitar/keyboard areas. This is where having a full-range monitor without a crossover is truly revealing. Ten months of R&D comparative listening & tweaking went into the voicing of the AVANTONE MixCubes. The result is a very smooth sounding, full range upgrade from the original 5C Sound Cubes. Listening tests reveal that the MixCubes have a smooth, more open, transparent top end response with extended bass while maintaining their basic original character. Cabinet Design The original 5C Sound Cubes™ were made of ½” particleboard covered with a glue-on wood grain contact paper. We chose to use thicker, denser MDF board because of its high rigidity and inherent low-resonance characteristics. We started with a 165mm (6 1/2") sealed cube design with radiused edges. We then chose an elegant Polyurethane high gloss “RETRO-CREAM” finish. The originals had either screws or on later models plastic binding posts mounted on a recessed plastic cup. We upgraded to high-end nickel plated, machined solid metal binding posts (Dual banana spacing) mounted on a black anodized ,milled and silk-screened aluminum terminal plate. Next we added a 7mm thick neoprene pad embedded into the base of the cabinet to serve as a skid-resistant acoustic isolator. Additionally, for creative mounting situations, we recessed an industry standard 5/8”-27 mic stand mount into the base. Driver Design The originals were a basic 5” stamped frame design. We designed a proprietary 5.25” die cast aluminum frame driver/cone assembly to exceed the performance of the originals. The mounting bezel is then polished for an elegant appearance. The paper cone, chosen for its musical character, is custom designed & crafted using the finest New Zealand pulp with mica fibers added for lighter weight & rigidity. The cloth surround is made in Japan to exacting uniform thickness tolerances. The Top Plate and T-Yoke of driver are made of Sumitomo 1008 low carbon steel enabling the highest modeled flux density in the gap. The magnets are Y- 40 GRADE (MIL-SPEC) yielding a 43oz. High Power-low distortion motor structure. Amplifier Design We designed the amp module from the ground up to be a true professional-grade amplifier. It incorporates “overkill” concepts in component selection as well as safety. The result is a “no-compromise” amp with robust headroom characteristics that will rival the performance of much higher priced studio rack mount amps. For unbalanced operation with a TS connector the minus signal is automatically grounded. System Gain: This variable control adjusts the sensitivity of the signal that appears at the input. Rotating the control clockwise increases the sensitivity while a counter-clockwise rotation decreases sensitivity. The adjustable gain range is from -30 to +6 dB. A setting of +6 allows a full, unimpeded signal to be sent to the amplifier. The detented gain positions allow for repeatable settings between speakers for proper matching. Please Note… when the signal appearing at the input is too hot, the amplifier can overload causing distortion and possible damage to the speaker. If overload occurs, attenuate (decrease) the input level by turning the knob counter-clockwise a few clicks. On/Off Switch: This illuminated switch turns the amplifier section on and off. The unit is still receiving power from the transformer however. AC Input: This input is only to be use with the proprietary AVANTONE Power Supply. Tighten the cable/connector securely for reliable operation. Note: There is a switch on the power supply for selecting the proper AC/MAINS operating voltage for your location. Ground Lift Switch: By engaging this switch the pin 1 shield is lifted at the input jack. This can be used to aid in ground loop control of the incoming analog line signal. Placement: When positioning the Avantone Active MixCubes on stands or console bridges it is best to keep them at ear level and slightly angled in towards the engineer. Since they are shielded it is ok to place them near a CRT video monitor or TV without causing any problems. The bottom mic stand mounts will also allow you creative positioning options in unusual studio playback situations.

Tech Talk With the SC207, you will get an extended bass frequency response (down to 44 Hz), courtesy of our 6.5" SilverCone honeycomb structured woofer and driven by a sophisticated low distortioncopper cap magnet system with our 1.5" voice coil. The result is a very tight and dynamic bass, along with the usual greater linear excursion. A PWM amplifier, with protection-limiting and capable of delivering a short-term output power of 100W, guarantees that the SC207 will never run out of juice. And with a maximum output level of 106 dB (SPL @ 1m), you can be sure that there is plenty of power to make critical and precise judgements over your mixes. The SC207 is also the first EVE model monitor that uses our proprietary AMT (Air Motion Transformer) RS2. That means it can deliver a higher output level that is due to a bigger magnet system inside. As with every other EVE Audio speaker, you get both balanced XLR inputs and unbalanced RCA inputs for greater convenience. DSP With every EVE Audio speaker, you also get high resolution DSP electronics. One push knob operation and you will have access to accurate volume control and several different filter settings that will help you tailor your monitors to the way you work. And if you always avoid digital processing, we've got you covered. The DSP engine is supported with a high quality A/D converter (24bit/192kHz) from Burr-Brown, which delivers a pristine signal to the DSP section. Bass Port Design It's all in the geometry. One of the downside effects of port compression is bass distortion. As you turn up the volume, the efficiency of the port reduces and distortion will increase. We opted for a large rear rectangular port with no hard edges for our bass port designs. That's one of the reasons EVE monitors have a high efficiency on the lower frequencies. The results? High sound pressures with tight and punchy bass frequencies that don't cause port distortion. Crank up the volume, and EVE will deliver a round bass. And with no holes to look at every time you glance at your speakers. Visokotonac sa veoma niskom usmerivošću za fleksibilno pozicioniranje za slušanje. Monitor dizajniran bez porta, ali sa dvostrukim pasivnim radijatorom - koji omogućava postavljanje zvučnika blizu zida. Brojna podešavanja za optimalnu integraciju. Precizna kontrola, čak i pri veoma visokim frekvencijama. Mehanizmi za kačenje nalaze se na zadnjoj strani i ispod zvučnika: za instaliranje na stolu, postolje za mikrofon, za kačenje na plafon ili zid, (oprema za kačenje nije obezbeđena). Prednosti obrnute kupole 'M' oblika – 1) Usmerivost manja čak i od one kod invertiranog kupolastog visokotonca, što daje veću fleksibilnost u pogledu pozicija za slušanje. 2) Kada je reč o mehaničkom aspektu, oblik slova 'M' daje kupoli veću čvrstinu, dok smanjuje distorziju u još većoj meri. Laneni konusni sendvič: kontrolisan i dobro definisan bas, prirodni i detaljan srednji opseg. Nakon više od pet godina istraživanja i razvoja, inženjeri u Focalu otkrivaju 2013. godine novi konus napravljen od visokokvalitetnih lanenih vlakana. F-konuse karakteriše njihov prirodni zvuk, niske koloracije, bogatstvo reprodukcije u registru srednjeg opsega i njihov čvršći bas. F-konusi zadovoljavaju ključne kriterijume dijafragme visokih performansi: visoko unutarnje prigušivanje, veliku brzinu zvuka i veoma savitljivu čvrstinu. Sendvič tehnologija u velikoj meri utiče na neutralnost zvuka koji proizvodi konus, što predstavlja nešto što je oduvek bilo obeležje Focala. Lan je dva puta lakši od staklene vune, jer je vlakno šuplje. Takođe je veoma male elastičnosti što ga čini idealnim za povećanje savitljive čvrstine sendvič strukture. Pritom, može se dobiti u netkanim snopovima značajnog prečnika i na taj način može proizvesti debljinu koju zahteva sendvič. Lanena vlakna imaju odlično unutarnje prigušenje istog reda kao čaša, Kevlar® vlakna ili aluminijum. Francuska je vodeća zemlja Evrope kada je reč o proizvodnji lanenih vlakana, a koja je naročito razvijena u Flandriji, Pikardiji, Normandji i regiji Pa de Kale. Francuski lan smatra se najboljim u Evropi. Poron® suspenzija omogućava linearniju krivulju frekventnog odziva ispod 6kHz, unapređujući skretnicu niskotonca. N.I.C. tehnologija neutralne induktivnosti - NEUTRAL INDUCTANCE CIRCUIT je, nakon tri godine istraživanja i razvoja donela inovativna rešenja za uobičajene nestabilnosti magnetnog polja: Lencov zakon, Fukoove struje i frekvenciju (...) čime se dobilo na još višoj definiciji zvuka. NIC tehnologija zasnovana je na Faradejevom kavezu čije su dimenzije, materijali i pozicioniranje optimizovani kako bi onemogućili da magnetno polje bude pogođeno pozicijom kalema za zvučnik, amperažom ili frekvencijom struje koja prolazi kroz njega. TMD – usklađen maseni prigušivač: Registar srednjeg opsega bez sumnje je najkomplikovaniji za kontrolu u zvučnom sistemu. Sa jedne strane mora da postoji nesmetan prelaz sa basom. Sa druge strane, mora da funkcioniše usmerenje ka visokotoncu, u smislu disperzije i ubrzanja. To određuje homogenost boje glasa i zvučnu trodimezionalnost prostora. „Podešen maseni prigušivač“ je tehnološka inovacija koja čini da dodatna masa koja oscilira u suprotnosti sa frekvencijom rezonance kontroliše stvar(i). Primenjeno na drajver za zvučnik, rešenje se sastoji u samo dva cevasta prstena na suspenziji, čije su dimenzije i položaj precizno utvrđeni. Oni čine podešen maseni prigušivač (TMD) i stabilizuju dinamično ponašanje okruženja u skladu sa rezonancom, čime se izbegava deformisanje konusa bez uticaja na dinamiku. Ova Focal-ova inovacija je patentirana. Nakon otkrića ovih problerma, morali smo da osmislimo opremu kako bi ih rešili. Rešenja koja su već poznata po povećanju broja svojstava suspenzije, rezultat su povećanja maseni koja se, shodno tome, menja. Odgovor je došao iz tehnologije koja se koristi kod solitera otpornih na zemljotres i koji se takođe koristi za suspenziju na trkačkih kolima! Tech Talk Every ThunderStorm subwoofer has detailed controls like switchable satellite filters (full range and 80Hz), phase switch controls (0°, 180°). and variable subwoofer filter frequencies (60....140Hz) to let you tailor and adjust your ThunderStorm to your specific room. The TS108 model features a very efficient 150W PWM amplifier that drives a proprietary 8" woofer. This guarantees a frequency response of down to 33Hz (on the lower end), up to 300Hz, for a maximum output power of 105 dB (SPL @ 1m). The included remote control will let you adjust not only the subwoofer's volume but also the complete stereo system's volume while sitting comfortably in your sweet spot. All in all, the ThunderStorm subwoofers will make any system sound better and more complete. As with every other EVE Audio subwoofer, you get balanced XLR In- and Outputs (Stereo In and Out, LFE In, LFE/Sub Out) for greater convenience. Passive Radiator The particularity of our extremely powerful and accurate subwoofer resides in the passive radiator used that replaces the common bass reflex tube. With this design all audible noise due to air turbulences disappear completely. Unwanted disturbing pipe resonances (at lambda/2 and multiples) are eliminated, which are unavoidable when applying the principle of a two-sided pipe opening (bass reflex port). The suspension of the passive radiator has a restoring force underneath its tuning frequency and reduces inaudible excursions in the subsonic range. This in turn results in reduced intermodulation distortion in the working range. The passive radiator allows a particularly low tuning or lower cut-off frequency in a very compact cabinet.
