Little Diamond 805 D4 might be smaller than its floor-standing siblings, but it’s no lightweight: its beautifully constructed Reverse-Wrap cabinet, stiff aluminium bass pods and 165mm (6.5-in) Continuum™ mid-bass cone afford it exceptional bass extension and scale for a relatively compact speaker. Diamond dome tweeter One of our most significant accomplishments over the past two decades, the ultra-stiff, supremely accurate Diamond dome tweeter is the perfect combination of low mass, exceptional stiffness and outstanding accuracy. 15 years after we introduced it, we haven’t found a better tweeter dome technology. Solid Body Tweeter assembly Our newest Solid Body Tweeter-on-Top housing features an elongated form with a longer tube-loading system, producing an even more free and open sound with high frequencies. The carefully decoupled housing is milled from a single solid block of aluminium to better resist resonance. Rear-mounted crossover The new reverse-wrap orientation of the cabinet on 805 D4 means we can place its sensitive crossover components inside their own, dedicated space within the cabinet, which has critical benefits to both performance and serviceability. We’ve taken the opportunity to upgrade the speaker terminals, too. The science of sound Innovation is at the heart of everything we do. We question, we examine, we understand and then we evolve. We use computer modelling to explore and reimagine every aspect of loudspeaker design. Learn more about all the technologies that combine to make 800 Series Diamond so special here. Absolute elegance 802 D4’s svelte proportions and beautiful painted or real-wood-veneer finishes make for an elegant living-room companion – but one that doesn’t compromise on performance. Perfect for reference-grade stereo listening and an excellent choice in home theatre applications. Aerofoil™ bass cone Our Aerofoil bass cone technology remains an outstanding solution to the conundrum of combining low mass and high stiffness in bass cones, thanks to its carbon-fibre skin and variable-profile foam core. Now, we have added the foam Anti-Resonance Plug for lower distortion and even cleaner bass. Aluminium top-plate Every stereo model in the new 800 Series Diamond™ range has a significantly upgraded cabinet with an all-new aluminium top-plate. This also provides a perfect mounting point for all-new Leather by Connolly trim, with luxurious black leather for dark cabinets and light grey for lighter finishes. Decoupled midrange assembly Like its floor-standing siblings in the new range, 802 D4 has a dedicated midrange cone using three key Bowers & Wilkins technologies: the Continuum™ cone, Biomimetic Suspension and midrange decoupling, the latter ensuring minimal interference from the operation of the loudspeaker’s bass drivers. The science of sound Innovation is at the heart of everything we do. We question, we examine, we understand and then we evolve. We use computer modelling to explore and reimagine every aspect of loudspeaker design. Learn more about all the technologies that combine to make 800 Series Diamond so special here. The Bowers & Wilkins 802 D4 produces less inherent sound than virtually any other loudspeaker, and reproduces music as it was originally recorded, completely unclouded. avguide.ch One of our best 802 D4 is a very special loudspeaker in its own right, with a thrilling blend of performance and style that other loudspeakers will find hard to emulate. Only one model in our range can best it – the flagship 801 D4, which has 250mm (10-in) bass cones in a more substantial low-frequency enclosure. Classic quality 804 D4 is perhaps more conventional in appearance than other floor-standers in the 800 Series Diamond range, but it’s every bit as sophisticated. Its new Reverse-Wrap cabinet is both a mechanical and acoustic revolution in its class, and its new plinth ensures rock-solid, accurate bass response too. Aluminium top-plate Every stereo model in the new 800 Series Diamond range has a significantly upgraded cabinet with an all-new aluminium top-plate. This also provides a perfect mounting point for all-new Leather by Connolly trim, with luxurious black leather for dark cabinets and light grey for lighter finishes. Reverse Wrap cabinet Instead of a conventional loudspeaker box, the cabinet in 804 D4 is made from a continuous curved section of wood, with the drive units mounted at the heart of the curvature. This stiffer, more inert structure resists mechanical resonances far better and also ensures better dispersion of sound. Aluminium plinth A great speaker needs a rock-solid foundation. The new 804 D4 uses a downwards-firing Flowport exiting on to a solid aluminium plinth complete with a steel constrained layer damping sheet, which controls unwanted resonance. It also has greatly upgraded spikes for maximum stability and durability. The science of sound Innovation is at the heart of everything we do. We question, we examine, we understand and then we evolve. We use computer modelling to explore and reimagine every aspect of loudspeaker design. Learn more about all the technologies that combine to make 800 Series Diamond so special here. The 804 D4 is a significant upgrade over its predecessor. Purity, resolution and prominently presenting the finest detail and a lifelike performance are its strengths. hifi.nl - 5 stars Get a Head 804 D4 is the entry-level floor-standing model in the 800 Series Diamond range. Step up to 803 D4 and you’ll find larger bass drivers (180mm, 7-in) plus, crucially, the addition of a Turbine™ Head enclosure for the 130mm (5-in) midrange cone, which adds even more spaciousness to the sound. · Size & weight Dimensions Height: 1071mm (42.2 in) Width: 306mm (12 in) Depth: 391mm (15.4 in) Net weight 36.85kg (81.2 lb) · Technical details Technical features Diamond tweeter Solid body Tweeter-on-Top Continuum™ cone FST Anti-Resonance plug Biomimetic Suspension Matrix™ Aerofoil™ cone bass units Flowport Description 3-way vented-box system Drive units 1x ø25mm (1in) Diamond dome high-frequency 1x ø130mm (5in) Continuum cone FST midrange 2x ø165mm (6.5in) Aerofoil cone bass units Frequency range 20Hz to 35kHz Frequency response 24Hz to 28kHz (+/-3dB from reference axis) Sensitivity 89dB (on axis at 2.83Vrms at 1m) Harmonic distortion 2nd and 3rd harmonics (90dB,1m on axis) <1% 90Hz – 20kHz <0.3% 120Hz – 20kHz Nominal impedance 8Ω (minimum 3.0Ω) Recommended amplifier power 50W – 200W into 8Ω on unclipped programme Max recommended cable impedance 0.1Ω

Small wonder 803 D4 may be notably more compact than the 801 D4 or 802 D4, but it still bristles with technical innovation, most obviously in its use of a three-box construction. Its 130mm (5-in) midrange cone is carefully isolated from the impact of its bass cones thanks to its Turbine Head enclosure. Reverse Wrap cabinet Instead of a conventional loudspeaker box, our cabinets are made from a continuous curved section of wood, with the drive units mounted at the heart of the curvature. This stiffer, more inert structure resists mechanical resonances far better and also ensures better dispersion of sound. Enhanced Matrix™ Matrix bracing uses interlocking panels to reinforce loudspeaker cabinet walls in all directions internally, reducing resonance and creating a more believable soundstage. The Matrix assembly in 803 D4 is our best yet, ensuring optimum scale, power and intelligibility. Aluminium bass pods 803 D4 mounts two Aerofoil™ bass cones in twin solid aluminium bass pods, each of which is clamped into an aluminium plate fixed to the stiffest part of its curved cabinet. Formed as single pieces of metal, these stiff structures provide the perfect mechanical location for those powerful bass cones. The science of sound Innovation is at the heart of everything we do. We question, we examine, we understand and then we evolve. We use computer modelling to explore and reimagine every aspect of loudspeaker design. Learn more about all the technologies that combine to make 800 Series Diamond™ so special here. There are few speakers more revered throughout the music industry than the volume-pumping, chicly-designed 800 Series Diamond range. Abbey Road recording studios uses them; which should tell you all you need to know. Gentlemen's Journal Step up for more power 803 D4 features all the most iconic ingredients in the 800 Series Diamond range including, of course, that famous headed enclosure. It is, however, smaller than its other siblings. Step up to the 802 D4, and you’ll get both larger 200mm (8-in) bass cones and a larger 150mm (6-in) midrange driver. Point-Sound-Source Speaker System For soundstage focus and precise imaging, the wave-fronts from a speaker’s drive units should ideally be aligned, arriving simultaneously at the listener’s ears regardless of the listening position. In other words, the speaker system should appear to have have only one point sound source. The newly developed flat coaxial two-way speaker unit, combining midrange and treble drivers, works with a virtual coaxial woofer to realize a point sound source, providing smooth directional characteristics over the entire frequency range, without peaks or dips. Phase Precision Driver (Flat Coaxial 2-Way Speaker Unit) For faithful reproduction of mid-range and high-frequency sound, Technics has developed an all-new flat coaxial two-way drive. The flat mid-range diaphragm is of a sandwich construction, using lightweight, high-rigidity carbon cloth skins and aluminium honeycomb core. It maintains a perfect pistonic motion over a frequency band extending beyond the crossover point with the tweeter, while eliminating the frequency distortions caused by the ‘cavity effect’ in conventional cone diaphragms. The magnetic circuit employs a large magnet, copper cap, copper shorting ring and short voice coil with high-density edgewise winding to achieve high drive power and low distortion, while the speaker chassis is die-cast aluminium, with a resonance-dispersing structure to eliminate even the smallest unwanted vibration. Ultra Wide Range Reproduction Thanks to a carbon graphite dome tweeter mounted at the center of the flat mid-range drive unit, the SB-R1 is capable of reproducing frequencies all the way up to 100 kHz. And with bass extension down to 20 Hz, it’s ready to deliver the vast frequency spectrum offered by high-quality, high-resolution music sources. High Rigidity Entasis Form Cabinet A 50-mm-thick baffle used in the cabinet supports the speaker units rigidly and suppresses undesirable resonances, while side panels comprising eight layers of MDF give the cabinet a curved form, suppressing unwanted vibration and reducing internal and external diffraction and reflection. An internal partition divides the cabinet into upper and lower sections, and eliminates low-order standing waves in the vertical direction. The choice of absorbent acoustic material and its position were optimized based on the frequency band of each drive-unit as well as the cabinet volume, thus further suppressing standing waves inside the cabinet, and even the rings round each drive unit are made of a material with high internal loss to eliminate unwanted emitting from anywhere other than the speaker sound diaphragm. The glossy finish on the cabinet is created through a series of processes including repeated coating, sanding, and polishing, the high degree of craftsmanship complementing the speakers’ high-quality sound. The finish even suppresses fine vibrations generated on the cabinet surface, thus contributing to the accuracy of the sound. Point-Sound-Source Speaker System Low Distortion 16-cm Long Stroke Woofer Technics has developed a long-throw woofer capable of reproducing super-low frequencies with dramatically reduced distortion, giving powerful, dynamic and responsive bass. A push-pull edge (Symmetrical Surround Technology, SST) design cancels secondary harmonic distortion in the low-frequency range. High-quality Network Circuit The High-quality Network Circuit was created as a result of extensive designing and listening, in order to maximize the performance of each speaker unit and achieve a balanced sound. To prevent interference between the drive units and minimize the effect of vibration, separate network boards for woofer, mid-range and tweeter are optimally arranged inside the cabinet. SVSs high end tower speaker featuring a 1 inch tweeter, dual 6.5 inch mid/woofer, dual 8 inch bass drivers, and their exclusive SoundMatch crossover technology, designed for two-channel purists and home theatre fans alike. Standing at just over a meter tall, with a unique upswept trapezoidal shape and striking edge treatments, the Ultra Tower creates a dramatic visual statement. Premium-grade finishes in piano gloss black and real black oak veneer complement this contemporary design. With SVS however, beauty is never just skin-deep. The Ultra Tower delivers a deep and detailed soundstage with incredible resolution, absolute transparency, and amazingly rich and articulated bass – outperforming other brands costing two and three times their price. The stunning Ultra Tower cabinet design yields numerous sonic benefits. The non-parallel cabinet panels reduce standing waves within the cabinet, effectively eliminating frequency response coloration. The wedge-shaped front baffle and flush-mounted drivers reduce edge diffraction and improved on-axis high frequency response. Even the grille design is FEA-optimized to maximize acoustic transparency. Each cabinet also employs two separate sealed midrange enclosures to optimize performance and minimize negative interaction between drivers. In addition, the cabinet bracing is FEA-optimized, the cabinet midrange/tweeter baffles are 1" thick and the woofer baffles are an amazing 1.5" thick. This robust construction eliminates structural resonances and ensures the cabinet remains acoustically inert for uncolored response even at the highest drive levels. Features Black ash and piano gloss black finish options Dual discrete sealed enclosure cabinet design for improved accuracy and performance, featuring non parallel cabinet panels to minimize driver inteaction and internal standing waves Crossover network delivers outstanding phase coherency and time domain behaviour Acoustically transparent and FEA optimised grilles minimise diffraction FEA-optimized cabinet and bracing eliminates resonances, edge diffraction and improves on-axis high frequency response 1 Inch Tweeter with Dual 6.5 Inch Mids Light, efficient, and rigid, providing high SPL (Sound Pressure Level) with minimal distortion and the sense of utter transparency, the aluminium dome tweeter deploys a Finite-Element-Analysis (FEA) optimised diffuser to ensure the tweeter only has the perfect on-axis and off-axis frequency response. The dual mids use a glass- fibre composite cone, vented coil former, aluminium shorting ring and a cast basket to achieve the best possible sonic performance. Dual 8" Force-Factor Woofer Array The unique ForceFactor horizontally-opposed dual woofer configuration results in mechanical force cancellation for reduced distortion and cleaner, tighter bass response. The ForceFactor array also eliminates cabinet vibration, which could otherwise modulate the mid/high frequencies – so the sound stage is always stable and crystal clear. Also, since the four woofers all fire in different directions, the acoustical loading and modal density in the listening space is greatly enhanced. No matter where you sit, the bass response will be effortless, smooth and accurate, and free of room-based anomalies. SoundMatch Crossover Technology The unique SoundMatch 3.5-way crossover features a tapered array which supplies each midrange driver with an optimised frequency band. Only the top midrange crosses over to the tweeter, while the bottom midrange is tapered to minimise the potential for off-axis lobing at the critical midrange-to-tweeter crossover frequency. The result is a smoother in-room frequency response and enhanced radiation of total sound power, along with a more generous sweet spot in the vertical axis for a convincing and stable sound stage. Naturally the SoundMatch crossover network also features premium-grade capacitors, air-core inductors and heavy-trace printed circuit boards to ensure pure signal transmission. Black magnetic grills are optional and are available to purchase separately. The Pleasure Of Sonic Perfection Q Series speakers by KEF bring you the intensity of a musical performance in natural, accurate high-resolution sound. Since 1991 the award-winning Q Series has delighted music lovers with outstanding sound quality and innovative design. Its 8th iteration brings more depth and clarity for greater realism. Uni-Q Sound The Uni-Q driver array places the tweeter in the centre of the midrange and bass cone, bringing the acoustic ideal of a single point source closer than ever. The result, enhanced by KEF's 'tangerine' waveguide over the tweeter, is a more accurate three-dimensional sound that's dispersed evenly throughout the room. New System Design Putting the Uni-Q driver in its own sealed cabinet reduces the load on the cone and increases clarity and detail while delivering cleaner bass. Midrange clarity is enhanced by driver improvements that mean the DC blocking capacitor to be eliminated from the crossover, allowing a more natural roll-off between drivers. Tweaking The Tweeter With the addition of the damped tweeter loading tube providing a gentle termination of sound produced from the back of the tweeter, lower treble performance is improved dramatically and a new low-distortion inductor on the crossover provides cleaner bass. The Q Series reproduces the nuances of bass instruments with ease. With a larger roll surround and new suspension KEF drivers produce cleaner bass at high volumes. A new cone structure improves midrange clarity and an enhanced Auxiliary Bass Radiator (ABR) with a new surround and rear suspension enhances bass quality. CFD-Designed Port Featuring a Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) port design with the port repositioned to the rear of the speaker, clarity is improved by reducing the audibility of the midrange leakage through the port. Low-frequency (LF) drivers now have a larger roll surround, along with a new suspension to produce cleaner bass at high volumes. A new cone structure improves midrange clarity, and an enhanced Auxiliary Bass Radiator (ABR) with a new surround and rear suspension delivers better controlled and more impressive bass. Performance redefined. An icon born from The Reference. Developed for KEF’s flagship The Reference, a suite of the latest technologies has now made its way into the new generation of the R Series. Whether in stereo for music or in a home theatre set up the R Series makes exceptional acoustic performance more accessible. Now with the groundbreaking Metamaterial Absorption Technology, the R Series reveals exquisite detail and incredible insight: truly an experience to savour. Innovation R Series: Born from The Reference Since 1961, KEF’s quest to reproduce immaculate sound has led to many acoustic innovations. The Reference is a case in point. Distilling decades of experience into an acoustic performance that is nothing short of exceptional, it is a design that continually sets the benchmark for loudspeakers and sound reproduction. Now the latest technological innovations have also made their way into the R Series. Metamaterial Absorption Technology Absorb 99% of unwanted sound At the heart of the R Series is Metamaterial Absorption Technology (MAT™). MAT™ is a highly complex maze-like structure that absorbs 99% of the unwanted noise from the rear of the driver, eliminating the resulting distortion and providing purer, more natural sound. Uni-Q® Sit anywhere, hear every detail A 12th generation Uni-Q® driver array with MAT™ is found in all seven models of the R Series. Uni-Q® acts as a single point source to disperse sound more evenly through the room. The result is the elimination of the limited ‘sweet spot’, therefore allowing everybody, wherever in the room they may be, to experience and enjoy the same natural, detailed sound. Performance Performance redefined The R Series is engineered to be acoustically exceptional. Every element of the design has been precisely tuned to deliver more detail and deeper insight, recreating the exhilaration of hearing an original music performance, with all the emotion and nuance that goes with it. A Flare for Detail Derived from The Reference, Shadow Flare is an innovative way to cut harmful high frequency cabinet diffraction. It's a carefully profiled transition that extends the waveguide effect of Uni-Q®. The treble escapes naturally because the ‘shadow region’ stops it getting to the cabinet edges. The result is vastly improved fine detail. Performance critical damping A solid platform is imperative for great sound. The R Series benefits from constrained layer damping, a system that uses internal braces joined by a ‘lossy’ interface. This material converts unwanted vibration into heat, ensuring that the cabinet makes the only sound it needs to: the sound of silence. True Bass Definition R Series bass drivers have a two-part structure with a shallow, concave, aluminium skin atop a paper cone. This stiffness, combined with the cone’s unique geometry, achieves a piston-like movement for punch and speed. The drivers’ magnet system creates a broad and uniform magnetic field which means more impressive and impactful bass. Flexible port for cleaner bass We only want to hear the drivers, not the resonances or turbulence created by a bass port. The R Series ports have innovative flexible walls. Using computational fluid dynamics, the flare and profile of each port is calculated to delay the onset of turbulence and the flexible port walls prevent resonances from colouring the midrange. Versatility Strength and versatility in numbers R Series offers a choice of floorstanding speakers, bookshelf speakers, centre channel speakers and accompanying home theatre models. Each one offers the finest sound KEF has ever delivered in its category, whatever the dimensions of the room or system configuration. Stereo for Music The R Series consists of a trio of floorstanding speakers and a bookshelf speaker to reproduce high-fidelity stereo sound for your favourite music. Discover depth and detail you never knew existed – from the scrape of a plectrum on a guitar string to the emotion and atmosphere of a live performance. Multi Channel Home Theatre For the greatest movie experience at home, KEF offers both architectural speakers and modular HiFi speakers, such as the R Series, that don’t need custom installation. With three floorstanding speaker models, one bookshelf speaker model and two centre channel speakers to choose from, plus the additional Dolby Atmos surround speaker, different home theatre set-ups can be easily configured with the R Series. Complete the set-up with KEF’s class-leading subwoofers to feel the most immersive cinematic experience, from the deepest rumble to the softest whisper. Beautiful by design Driven purely by acoustics, at KEF we believe there is a certain beauty even to the internal engineering fixings. The R Series has been created to be beautiful on the outside, and these finely tuned workings are protected behind a minimal exterior designed to fit seamlessly and elegantly into any interior scheme, whether traditional, modern or contemporary. Finished to Perfection Three carefully selected finishes include sleek Black Gloss, White Gloss and classic Walnut, while special edition finishes include Titanium Gloss and Indigo Gloss for the R7 Meta and R3 Meta respectively. Dedicated microfibre grilles The R Series has been engineered to perform with or without grilles. The dedicated microfibre grilles are crafted from multiple layers of material and have a suede-like feel. With 1801 precision-cut holes for each driver, performance is ensured even when the drivers are covered. The magnetic fixings provide a secure and precise fit, in keeping with the clean styling of the R Series. Taking acoustic technology and design cues from the flagship Concept 300, while also introducing new audio innovations, the Concept 30 stand mount delivers truly high-end home audio performance. All our anti-resonance innovations allow the state-of-the-art complement of drivers free to get on with the job of delivering the most realistic, most involving sound ever heard at this price-point. Controlled Power Designed as an integral part of the mechanical structure of the cabinet, both the 5-inch mid/bass and 0.9-inch tweeter drivers are new, ground-up designs specifically for the Concept 30, 50 and 90 loudspeakers. The drive units are fixed to a remarkably stiff 3mm aluminium baffle plate before it is fitted to the cabinet - this gives the correct acoustic seal, dampening vibrations and minimising structural coupling. No Artificial Colouring Every element of acoustic innovation featured in the Concept 30 is geared towards designing the quietest cabinet possible. Unaffected by internal and external resonances, these speakers deliver focused stereo imaging, accurate audio and an extended holographic soundstage to emulate a live performance in the home. Tweeter The tweeter is hermetically sealed and mechanically isolated (floating) from the baffle, which means lower distortion and a lower crossover point for seamless integration through the crossover region. At 30.5mm, the larger mid/bass driver voice coil increases motor strength resulting in a 50 increase in power handling over a comparable driver with 25.4 mm voice coil. Gelcore Technology Introduced in the original Concept speaker, the Gelcore cabinet construction is designed to minimise high-frequency noise. A unique design comprised of a non-setting gel sandwiched between two individual layers, this specially developed adhesive dissipates high-frequency vibrations, generated by the moving drivers, into heat to maintain a focused audio performance. Isolation Suspension A variation on the hugely effective ‘isolation base’ principle first seen on Concept 300 means the Concept 30 have a suspension system in the form of a sprung baseplate. Two plates are separated by suspension ‘spheres’ that effectively isolates the cabinet from interference from external vibrations, providing tighter stereo imaging, while also bringing greater depth. P2P Technology To keep the cabinet as rigid as possible, P2P (Point to Point) internal bracing is employed. First introduced in the Concept 500, reinforcement is fitted to interior areas of the cabinet susceptible to low-end frequency reverberations. Advanced Phase Precision Driver To reproduce music with enhanced spatial sound expressivity requires that the wavefronts of sounds coming from the speaker unit are all aligned when they reach the listener regardless of the listening position. The concept of point sound source is one of the ideal approaches to achieve it. To realise the point sound source reproduction, the coaxial configuration was adopted and then it was combined with the originally shaped Linear Phase Plug for aligning phases and the Smooth Flow Diaphragm formed with a shallow-shape diaphragm and smooth edge shape for minimum sound reflection. The SB-G90M2’s 2-way coaxial speaker unit was newly developed for the reproduction of the mid- to high-frequency range in order to realise the clear sound image localisation and high sound quality to deliver smooth, emotion-rich music, while inheriting the concepts of point sound source and linear phase that Technics pursues relentlessly. Linear Phase Plug The originally shaped acoustic plug is positioned on the front side of the tweeter diaphragm and provides a high-resolution sound reproduction capability and a wide sound stage. The tip of the Linear Phase Plug is made from a high-modulus, high-density brass material. It prevents the plug from vibrating unnecessarily due to the effect of the vibration of the mid-range unit, thus delivering clear and low-distortion sound. Smooth Flow Diaphragm When sound wave propagates along an irregular surface, its wavefront becomes disturbed due to the surface irregularities and results in the degradation of frequency characteristics. This affects particularly the characteristics of high frequencies with short wavelengths. The diaphragm of the mid-range unit, which is part of the coaxial speaker unit, has a shallow shape with a smooth edge to reduce sound reflections so that the disturbance to the sounds radiated from the diaphragm is minimised, resulting in excellent frequency response, phase characteristic and wide directivity. This configuration achieves a wide sound stage and smooth and rich mid- to high-frequency range. Stationary Construction To reproduce the sound of music with a high S/N ratio, sources of all undesirable or unwanted sound have been eliminated completely. To that end, the balanced driver mounting architecture adopted by the previous SB-G90 model was further optimised through the extensive CAE analysis and the speaker mount baffle was newly developed for the secure mounting of the speaker units. In addition, the rigidity of the entire cabinet was strengthened to take advantage of the balanced driver mounting architecture. The strength and shape of each and every one of the parts composing the coaxial speaker was reviewed painstakingly in order to remove unwanted vibrations and noise as completely as possible. What’s more, a sound path structure is provided inside the cabinet. This new and unique structure effectively eliminate standing waves that cause a resonance peak. Balanced Driver Mounting Architecture Unwanted vibrations generated by the speaker mount baffle have been further reduced by improving the vent holes using CAE and by allowing the one-piece woofer amount baffle to penetrate the bottom board for achieving higher rigidity. What’s more, the optimised vent holes improve the distribution of sound radiated from the back sides of speakers for enhanced response. In addition, the coaxial speaker mount baffle is separated from the woofer mount baffle to eliminate the mutual interference. Together, they further enhance the crispness of sound and three dimensional presentation of sound field. Standing Wave Termination Structure A resonance called standing wave is usually generated inside the speaker cabinet by the sound of a certain frequency determined by the cabinet size. The most common method to eliminate the standing wave is to install a sound absorbing material inside the cabinet. However, since sound absorbing material also absorbs sound at frequencies other than the one that generates a standing wave, it somewhat removes dynamism or vividness from the reproduced sound. As a countermeasure, a sound path structure is provided at the bottom of the woofer cabinet to guide the standing waves. As a countermeasure, a sound path structure is provided at the bottom of the woofer cabinet to guide the standing waves. Sound absorbing material is installed at the location in the sound path where the speed of sound becomes fastest. This enables the efficient removal of standing waves, which are the cause of resonance peaks, with a minimum amount of sound absorbing material. (Patented) This structure allows the use of all information necessary for accurately reproducing music so the speaker system realises more vivid and natural medium- and low-frequency sound. High-rigidity Cabinet Inside the cabinet, the speaker mount baffle is combined with a lateral reinforcement board to provide a robust cross structure and eliminate unwanted resonance. Highly Analysed and Optimised Components To achieve accurate sound image localisation, structural parts such as spacers and wire grommets were analysed extensively for the elimination of undesirable vibrations and noise. Low-distortion and Long-stroke 16cm Woofer Two long-stroke 16cm woofer units are mounted. The magnetic circuit features double magnet, long voice coil and copper ring to produce ample driving power. Bi-Wiring Speaker Terminal The woofer and mid-/high-range unit are driven by separate amplifiers for the elimination of the effect of the woofer on the mid-/high-range unit. This realises clear and transparent sound. Bass Loading Bass loading is achieved by side vented directional loading similar to that used in the D40, producing an extremely accurate and powerful bass response with good extension and low colouration. Carbon Fibre Cones ProAc has recently implemented the use of carbon fibre in the cones of the Response D40 and Carbon Pro 8, and Kevlar in the Tablette Anniversary and K6 models, thereby achieving levels of sound quality that were only dreamed of a few years ago. The necessary exhaustive research involved in the development of these models and the materials employed has enabled us to design cones that give excellent frequency response characteristics and the new Response D30RS is the latest model to take advantage of the acoustic excellence of carbon fibre. Crossover The crossover network employs dedicated components of the highest quality and multi-strand oxygen-free copper wiring. The classic ProAc split crossover design offers bi-wiring and bi-amping options. The D30RS, therefore, offers a similar bass loading, cone material, tweeter and crossover network to that of its larger sibling, making it an ideal choice for those who require a smaller floorstander but still demand sonic excellence. Performance Once set up using ProAc's supplied spikes, which are designed to penetrate even thick carpet and when partnered with quality electronics, the exceptional performance of the D30 can be fully realised. Offering clean powerful bass, an uncoloured, open midrange and a sweet, detailed high-frequency response, the Stewart Tyler-designed D30RS offers a wonderfully natural and musical performance with pinpoint imagery that will appeal to audiophiles and music lovers all over the world. The R Series The R11 is the largest model in the new R Series from UK-based innovators, KEF. It comes before the R7 and R5 floorstanding speakers in terms of size and specification and makes a great accompaniment to the R3 bookshelf speakers and R6 or R2 centre speakers. The R Series is packed full of the latest and greatest innovations from KEF; such features as the trailblazing Metamaterial Absorption Technology (MAT) and Uni-Q® drivers, found in their flagship Reference series and LSX II respectively, are an indicator of great performance. Uni-Q® Across all seven models of the R series, there features the Uni-Q® driver array, consisting of a high-frequency tweeter at the centre of a mid-range driver. On the R11 speaker, this combined unit is found located between four bass drivers—two above and two below. The purpose of such a driver unit is to extend the ‘sweet spot’, thereby yielding optimal listening over a larger area of your room. Now in its twelfth generation, this driver design is the outcome of many technological advancements and in-house modifications. This newest iteration has been designed to perfectly complement the Metamaterial Absorption Technology (MAT) at the centre of KEF’s R series, resulting in incredible sonic detail. A flexible decoupled chassis is one factor contributing to this; such support around the mid-range driver of the R11 speakers minimises midrange vibration to promote ultimate clarity. Metamaterial Absorption Technology The key performance feature of the R11 floorstanding speakers—and the R series more broadly—is the incorporation of Metamaterial Absorption Technology (MAT). It sounds impressive, but what is this exactly? Metamaterial Absorption Technology is a What Hi-Fi? award-winning innovation by KEF in collaboration with the Acoustic Metamaterials Group. It is an absorption solution for speaker drivers which successfully diminishes 99 of unwanted sound. This is approximately 40 better absorption than other loudspeakers, leading to a noticeable difference in sonic clarity and naturalism. Quadruple Bass Definition With a fantastic four bass drivers, the R11 is extremely well-equipped to meet your low-frequency demands. However, with greater bass comes the challenge of control, something KEF has tackled with a two-part structure consisting of a shallow concave aluminium skin and paper cone. The former delivers the stiffness needed to manage resonance and enforces smooth piston movement. Unwanted resonance is further limited by a sophisticated suspension, keeping everything agile for punchy, yet precise bass. Rear-Ported Power Despite having a rear port, the R11 speakers manage to avoid any unwelcome resonance and turbulence through the application of computational fluid dynamics. The results of such calculations are flexible port walls and a strategically sized port flare and profile. Sounds are ultimately untouched by distortive colouration and vibration. Stereo and Home Theatre The R11 Meta floorstanding speakers work great in both stereo or home theatre configurations; for music or film and television. Regardless of room size, the R11 speakers will perform their high-fidelity duties and serve up true-to-recording music or realistic and cinematic sounds. Due to the consistency in driver design and placement across the R series, a full home theatre using R series speakers offers uniformity that’s hard to come by. Features Twelfth generation Uni-Q driver array has been refined over time for next-level clarity Metamaterial Absorption Technology (MAT) diminishes the chance of high-frequency distortion Flexible decoupling chassis helps prevent vibration and noise colouration in the midrange Frequencies meet and mix with an enhanced crossover, resulting in an unspoiled signal delivery Ideal for both stereo and home theatre setups Hybrid aluminium bass drivers with improved stiffness and suspension eliminates unwanted resonance Flexible rear port optimised for minimal sound colouration with computational fluid dynamics A ‘Constrained Layer Damping’ bracing system keeps cabinetry inert Microfibre grilles are included for sleek protection of your speakers’ drivers without inhibiting performance What’s in the Box? The benchmark of benchmarks Since 1973, The Reference has continually set the benchmark for loudspeakers and sound reproduction. Pioneering the use of digital technologies to achieve the highest audio accuracy, every pair can be matched within 0.5dB to the laboratory-maintained reference standard. Always innovating Since the first Reference speaker, KEF engineers have continued to innovate using what is possible with The Reference. Ground-breaking in its first incarnation, each subsequent iteration of The Reference has added to the world’s knowledge of the science of acoustics. Designed, engineered and handcrafted in UK Since 1961, we have been creating remarkable award-winning loudspeakers at our UK home in Maidstone, Kent. As our flagship HiFi speakers, The Reference is still being designed, engineered, and handcrafted in Maidstone today. KEF Reference 3 Meta speakers are the latest version of these excellent floorstanders, perhaps the sweet spot in the Reference range - offering greater low frequency extension over Reference 1 Meta, in a more compact size than Reference 5 Meta, making them well suited to most rooms. In their pursuit of that extra marginal gain in an audio world – KEF have taken their already outstanding Reference 3 Meta floor-standing speakers and elevated them to a new level of performance with the introduction of MAT (Metamaterial Absorption Technology). The Summit Of Standards You can trace the lineage of the Reference 3 Meta back to the 1970’s when KEF and their master craftsman created the first in a long line of award-winning floor-standing speakers where quality and design were unleashed to create the ultimate statement and marriage of design and audio technology. Fast forward to today and the Reference 3 Meta represents the newest generation of the KEF family. All the time retaining what made KEF so revered and adored by audiophiles and those who just want a damn good speaker alike. A New Metaverse On the Reference 3 Meta, the drive units are in a 12th generation Uni-Q drive array with the high-frequency 25mm (1”) aluminium dome unit being equipped with Metamaterial absorption technology (MAT) which is a radical departure and change that the speaker world sees once in a generation. MAT delivers a 99% absorption rate from the rear of the drive unit – effectively wiping out distortion in a single stroke giving you the purest listen, you can ever want. Superb Driving The drive units alongside the high-frequency driver (in the Uni-Q array) are designed to perfectly work with each other with a 125mm (5”) aluminium cone, which itself delivers a fantastic response across the spectrum, which when paired with a bass unit that itself is a pair of 165mm (6.5”) cones that make the Reference 3 Meta a true champion of sound Excellent Response Frequency response on the Reference 3 Meta is outstanding with the short port giving you a response of 38Hz – 45kHz (-6dB) and the longer port giving you a response of 35Hz to 45kHz (-6dB) which ensures a complete coverage from a bookshelf style speaker that has never been seen or felt before. Power To The Speakers With all this technology packed into a small speaker cabinet, you would think that these units would require a lot of power from an amplifier, but that is not the case with these speakers as they require 50 – 300W maximum, meaning they will happily work with any amplifier.
