At the centre of it all The centre-channel speaker is arguably the most important in home theatre – and the HTM81 D4 has an enviable array of advanced technologies to reinforce that point, including Solid Body tweeter-on-top, a decoupled Continuum™ Cone midrange drive unit and twin 200mm (8-in) Aerofoil™ bass cones. Aerofoil bass cone Our Aerofoil bass cone technology remains an outstanding solution to the conundrum of combining low mass and high stiffness in bass cones, thanks to its carbon-fibre skin and variable-profile foam core. Now, we have added the foam Anti-Resonance Plug for lower distortion and even cleaner bass. Diamond dome tweeter One of our most significant accomplishments over the past two decades, the ultra-stiff, supremely accurate Diamond dome tweeter is the perfect combination of low mass, exceptional stiffness and outstanding accuracy. 15 years after we introduced it, we haven’t found a better tweeter dome technology. Aluminium bass pods HTM81 D4 mounts two Aerofoil bass cones in twin solid aluminium bass pods, each of which is clamped into an aluminium plate fixed to the stiffest part of its curved cabinet. Formed as single pieces of metal, these stiff structures provide the perfect mechanical location for those powerful bass cones. The science of sound Innovation is at the heart of everything we do. We question, we examine, we understand and then we evolve. We use computer modelling to explore and reimagine every aspect of loudspeaker design. Nothing looks, or sounds, quite like Nautilus. A revolution when it launched and still an icon today. Its ethos informs everything we do. Nautilus comes in three standard colors: midnight blue, black, and silver. We also offer a special service that can match any color from a sample or color reference. Redefining sound The long, tapered damping tubes were a revolution, allowing the drive units to work optimally by gently absorbing stray energy. Shaped by sound At a glance, you can see Nautilus is no ordinary speaker, and after nearly three decades it still defines high-end audio. Making magic Constructing the complex shapes and precision drive units demands decades of experience and exacting attention to detail. Crafting a classic Nautilus speakers are hand-built to order, alongside the 800 Series Diamond™, by a dedicated specialist team in the Worthing factory. Infinite colors Nautilus comes in three standard colors: silver, black and midnight blue. But, as befits such a unique speaker, we also offer a special service that can match any color you specify. Setting the standard for the future The striking spirals and tubes of Nautilus came from our research into making speaker drive units behave as we wanted: this Nautilus Tube technology, for which we won a Queen's Award for Innovation, is now found in almost every speaker we make. Thinking beyond the box Nautilus is quite unlike a conventional box speaker: to package our unique Nautilus tubes for use in the home, our designers developed the striking, and space-efficient, spiral form from which the speaker takes its name. But why the Nautilus tube? We want to hear a speaker driver, not its side-effects – conventional boxes contain sound from the rear of the driver, but bring their own problems. Nautilus tapering tubes soak up wayward energy and reduce resonances to the point of insignificance. 40 years of excellence Innovation. 801 D4 is defined by it. In each of its incarnations over the decades, 801 has always been the most advanced loudspeaker that we know to make at that particular point in time, a showcase of all our newest technologies and most original thinking. Small wonder it has become an icon. The ultimate Matrix™ Matrix bracing uses interlocking panels to reinforce loudspeaker cabinet walls in all directions internally, reducing resonance and creating a more believable soundstage. The Matrix assembly in 801 D4 is our best yet, upgraded with extensive aluminium bracing to reinforce key stress points. Turbine™ Head The all-aluminium Turbine Head houses our Continuum™ midrange cone in a stiff and critically damped enclosure to eliminate unwanted resonances. At the same time, it’s decoupled from both the bass enclosure and the tweeter body. The result? The most realistic midrange sound yet. Biomimetic Suspension Sometimes, making a big difference takes unconventional thinking. Our new Biomimetic Suspension revolutionises midrange performance by greatly reducing the unwanted air pressure and coloration that a traditional fabric spider can generate. The result? Midrange transparency you wouldn’t believe. The science of sound Innovation is at the heart of everything we do. We question, we examine, we understand and then we evolve. Kevlar Drivers Following the successful incorporation of carbon fibre drivers, ProAc developed new "K series" drivers made from Kevlar. Kevlar features similar benefits to carbon fibre in that it's light and at the same time rigid. The ProAc 6 1/2” drivers utilised in the K6 feature Kevlar cones made by the same special method as our carbon fibre coned drive units; the cone is painstakingly produced from a mould by hand, a labour intensive process taking many hours to complete. Although Kevlar has proven to be an excellent cone material sonically, the Kevlar ProAc bass drivers require a different porting mechanism in order to realise their full potential. The bass is loaded by an almost invisible vent to produce a wonderfully weighty but exceptionally fast bass response. These drivers are seamlessly crossed over to a 2” dome midrange, the horn of which is manufactured from billet aluminium and for the high frequencies, ProAc’s proven ribbon tweeter has been chosen. Cabinet Design The cabinet on the K6 is a traditional mixture from ProAc of HDF materials of different thicknesses heavily damped with bitumen. Indeed the carcass including bitumen is 35mm thick. The combination of research into carbon fibre and its ingredients have produced a stunningly accurate and detailed loudspeaker, having an electrostatic or panel quality without the drawbacks. Sound Quality Sound is reproduced effortlessly with incredible detail and pinpoint imagery, which often can be muddled by conventional drive units. The K6 is designed for audiophiles and music lovers who are looking for a true high end loudspeaker offering smooth reproduction and an impressively flat response throughout the frequency range. The legendary ProAc qualities of large soundstaging and pin-sharp imaging capabilities complete a highly musical and engaging transducer. Small wonder 803 D4 may be notably more compact than the 801 D4 or 802 D4, but it still bristles with technical innovation, most obviously in its use of a three-box construction. Its 130mm (5-in) midrange cone is carefully isolated from the impact of its bass cones thanks to its Turbine Head enclosure. Reverse Wrap cabinet Instead of a conventional loudspeaker box, our cabinets are made from a continuous curved section of wood, with the drive units mounted at the heart of the curvature. This stiffer, more inert structure resists mechanical resonances far better and also ensures better dispersion of sound. Enhanced Matrix™ Matrix bracing uses interlocking panels to reinforce loudspeaker cabinet walls in all directions internally, reducing resonance and creating a more believable soundstage. The Matrix assembly in 803 D4 is our best yet, ensuring optimum scale, power and intelligibility. Aluminium bass pods 803 D4 mounts two Aerofoil™ bass cones in twin solid aluminium bass pods, each of which is clamped into an aluminium plate fixed to the stiffest part of its curved cabinet. Learn more about all the technologies that combine to make 800 Series Diamond™ so special here. There are few speakers more revered throughout the music industry than the volume-pumping, chicly-designed 800 Series Diamond range. Abbey Road recording studios uses them; which should tell you all you need to know. Learn more about all the technologies that combine to make 800 Series Diamond™ so special here. There are few speakers more revered throughout the music industry than the volume-pumping, chicly-designed 800 Series Diamond range. Abbey Road recording studios uses them; which should tell you all you need to know. Point-Sound-Source Speaker System For soundstage focus and precise imaging, the wave-fronts from a speaker’s drive units should ideally be aligned, arriving simultaneously at the listener’s ears regardless of the listening position. In other words, the speaker system should appear to have have only one point sound source. The newly developed flat coaxial two-way speaker unit, combining midrange and treble drivers, works with a virtual coaxial woofer to realize a point sound source, providing smooth directional characteristics over the entire frequency range, without peaks or dips. Phase Precision Driver (Flat Coaxial 2-Way Speaker Unit) For faithful reproduction of mid-range and high-frequency sound, Technics has developed an all-new flat coaxial two-way drive. The flat mid-range diaphragm is of a sandwich construction, using lightweight, high-rigidity carbon cloth skins and aluminium honeycomb core. It maintains a perfect pistonic motion over a frequency band extending beyond the crossover point with the tweeter, while eliminating the frequency distortions caused by the ‘cavity effect’ in conventional cone diaphragms. The magnetic circuit employs a large magnet, copper cap, copper shorting ring and short voice coil with high-density edgewise winding to achieve high drive power and low distortion, while the speaker chassis is die-cast aluminium, with a resonance-dispersing structure to eliminate even the smallest unwanted vibration. Ultra Wide Range Reproduction Thanks to a carbon graphite dome tweeter mounted at the center of the flat mid-range drive unit, the SB-R1 is capable of reproducing frequencies all the way up to 100 kHz. And with bass extension down to 20 Hz, it’s ready to deliver the vast frequency spectrum offered by high-quality, high-resolution music sources. High Rigidity Entasis Form Cabinet A 50-mm-thick baffle used in the cabinet supports the speaker units rigidly and suppresses undesirable resonances, while side panels comprising eight layers of MDF give the cabinet a curved form, suppressing unwanted vibration and reducing internal and external diffraction and reflection. An internal partition divides the cabinet into upper and lower sections, and eliminates low-order standing waves in the vertical direction. The choice of absorbent acoustic material and its position were optimized based on the frequency band of each drive-unit as well as the cabinet volume, thus further suppressing standing waves inside the cabinet, and even the rings round each drive unit are made of a material with high internal loss to eliminate unwanted emitting from anywhere other than the speaker sound diaphragm. The glossy finish on the cabinet is created through a series of processes including repeated coating, sanding, and polishing, the high degree of craftsmanship complementing the speakers’ high-quality sound. The finish even suppresses fine vibrations generated on the cabinet surface, thus contributing to the accuracy of the sound. Point-Sound-Source Speaker System Low Distortion 16-cm Long Stroke Woofer Technics has developed a long-throw woofer capable of reproducing super-low frequencies with dramatically reduced distortion, giving powerful, dynamic and responsive bass. A push-pull edge (Symmetrical Surround Technology, SST) design cancels secondary harmonic distortion in the low-frequency range. High-quality Network Circuit The High-quality Network Circuit was created as a result of extensive designing and listening, in order to maximize the performance of each speaker unit and achieve a balanced sound. To prevent interference between the drive units and minimize the effect of vibration, separate network boards for woofer, mid-range and tweeter are optimally arranged inside the cabinet. Mid Detail ProAc have improved the mid-range detail and a opened up a cleaner, faster and more extended bass response. A new studio monitor quality bass driver was designed for the D48, featuring a special impregnated cone and mid frequencies tuned by a cap of greater size than standard. This gives the new unit greater mid-range detail along with excellent bass control giving a tighter and more extended response. Dual Bass The two new bass drivers are each loaded through ProAc's special floor loading with side vents, this makes the loudspeaker easier to place and reacts less to surroundings. The two bass units are then seamlessly mated to our ribbon or dome tweeter depending on your preference. With such a large slim floor standing design the sound stage is superb being very large and with pinpoint imagery. Another achievement for the D48 is its ability to create large orchestral works as well as heavy rock music. HQ Filter The D48 has a high quality filter network designed by Stewart Tyler comprising of the finest components, ProAc cable on a special board. The filter is also split for bi-amping and bi-wiring. This is one of the best designs from ProAc and should please all audio files regardless of their taste in music. D40 Legacy The ProAc Response D48 is built to replace the immense flagship Response D40, and has some big shoes to fill! ProAc aren't in the business of making tweaks and changes for the sake of it, so for all purposes the D48 is a wholly new speaker. ProAc have moved away from the carbon fibre cone material utilised on the D40, instead opting for a carbon fibre pulp which delivers improved midrange frequency reproduction as well as tighter bass with less low frequency hangover. Enhanced Sound These differences give the listener a more detailed, open midrange and a more expansive soundstage. The benchmark of benchmarks Since 1973, The Reference has continually set the benchmark for loudspeakers and sound reproduction. Pioneering the use of digital technologies to achieve the highest audio accuracy, every pair can be matched within 0.5dB to the laboratory-maintained reference standard. Always innovating Since the first Reference speaker, KEF engineers have continued to innovate using what is possible with The Reference. Ground-breaking in its first incarnation, each subsequent iteration of The Reference has added to the world’s knowledge of the science of acoustics. Designed, engineered and handcrafted in UK Since 1961, we have been creating remarkable award-winning loudspeakers at our UK home in Maidstone, Kent. As our flagship HiFi speakers, The Reference is still being designed, engineered, and handcrafted in Maidstone today. KEF Reference 3 Meta speakers are the latest version of these excellent floorstanders, perhaps the sweet spot in the Reference range - offering greater low frequency extension over Reference 1 Meta, in a more compact size than Reference 5 Meta, making them well suited to most rooms. In their pursuit of that extra marginal gain in an audio world – KEF have taken their already outstanding Reference 3 Meta floor-standing speakers and elevated them to a new level of performance with the introduction of MAT (Metamaterial Absorption Technology). The Summit Of Standards You can trace the lineage of the Reference 3 Meta back to the 1970’s when KEF and their master craftsman created the first in a long line of award-winning floor-standing speakers where quality and design were unleashed to create the ultimate statement and marriage of design and audio technology. Fast forward to today and the Reference 3 Meta represents the newest generation of the KEF family. All the time retaining what made KEF so revered and adored by audiophiles and those who just want a damn good speaker alike. A New Metaverse On the Reference 3 Meta, the drive units are in a 12th generation Uni-Q drive array with the high-frequency 25mm (1”) aluminium dome unit being equipped with Metamaterial absorption technology (MAT) which is a radical departure and change that the speaker world sees once in a generation. MAT delivers a 99% absorption rate from the rear of the drive unit – effectively wiping out distortion in a single stroke giving you the purest listen, you can ever want. Superb Driving The drive units alongside the high-frequency driver (in the Uni-Q array) are designed to perfectly work with each other with a 125mm (5”) aluminium cone, which itself delivers a fantastic response across the spectrum, which when paired with a bass unit that itself is a pair of 165mm (6.5”) cones that make the Reference 3 Meta a true champion of sound Excellent Response Frequency response on the Reference 3 Meta is outstanding with the short port giving you a response of 38Hz – 45kHz (-6dB) and the longer port giving you a response of 35Hz to 45kHz (-6dB) which ensures a complete coverage from a bookshelf style speaker that has never been seen or felt before. Power To The Speakers With all this technology packed into a small speaker cabinet, you would think that these units would require a lot of power from an amplifier, but that is not the case with these speakers as they require 50 – 300W maximum, meaning they will happily work with any amplifier.
