NOVO, U CELOFANU ORIGINAL STRANO IZDANJE Fans of vintage B.B. King who are still picking themselves off the floor or ceiling after THE VINTAGE YEARS 4-CD box set (ABOXCD 8) shouldn`t change into clean clothes just yet. Ace has begun the next phase of its campaign to reissue his prime 1950s and 1960s work for the Bihari brothers` labels. In keeping with Ace`s goal of issuing every B.B. King track for the Biharis of significance on CD, the spotlight now turns to B.B.`s twelve LPs which originally appeared on Crown between 1957 and 1963, all slated for reissue at mid-price with the original covers and additional related alternate, obscure and unissued tracks. The first two volumes provide both short term gratification and long term promise. Releasing these CDs at a reduced price echoes the LPs` original budget status, which exasperated and, at least in his eyes, demeaned and limited B.B. enough to motivate him to take his quest for respect and recognition to ABC Paramount in 1962. While understanding his point of view, one can also note that those LPs, subsequently repackaged on other budget labels, nonetheless made B.B.`s music more accessible to many buyers, and the modest product placement doesn`t diminish the enduring magnificence of the music. This debuting CD series, carefully and generously compiled by John Broven and prepared with Ace`s exemplary sonic rigour, combines the best of old and new. The second release in our extensive CD reissue series of B.B. King`s LPs for the Crown label between 1957 and 1963, with bonus tracks including previously unissued material. B.B. KING WAILS, which first found its way to dime store record racks as B.B.`s third Crown album around April 1959 and was later retitled I LOVE YOU SO on other cheapie labels, offers a musical contrast. It was oriented towards a comparatively lavish big band sound, with an idiomatic ballad quotient and a stylish, uptown feel and diversity of mood. Its orchestration is more representative of B.B.`s highly regarded road band of the time than the stripped down (but no less effective) MY KIND OF BLUES. In fact, his working group seems to be the core of the studio ensemble. Though devoid of major hits (the only song to chart was an overdubbed The Woman I Love in 1968), the impact of the original programme can be heard via covers of I`ve Got Papers On You Baby (most notably by Magic Sam for whom it was a live staple) and The Woman I Love, one of two remakes of different Dr. Clayton songs issued under the same title by the Biharis. Sweet Thing is a worthy variation on Sweet Sixteen. The eight additions include a nice alternate You`ve Been An Angel (another B.B. tune later covered by Otis Rush) and an alternate Why I Sing The Blues-.-original Kent 45s I Stay In The Mood (which charted in `66) and Trouble In Mind-.-the previously unheard big band ballads Yesterday (nothing to do with Lennon & McCartney!) and My Silent Prayer-.-plus collaborations with the renowned orchestras of Count Basie and Tommy Dorsey. Two down, ten more affordable gems beckoning soon - it`s time to start clearing some shelf space and explaining to the family why it`s rice and beans for dinner again!

NOVO, U CELOFANU ORIGINAL STRANO IZDANJE In November 1970, I made my first trip to the USA as tour manager for a rock band. While there we played a four night engagement* at the East Town Theatre, an establishment situated in a mainly black neighbourhood on the eastside of Detroit. Next door to the theatre was a diner that specialised in Southern `Soul Food`. This diner, which featured a jukebox with about 200 selections, became our regular haunt and over the next four days in Detroit, we probably spent as much on the jukebox as we did on eating. Easily the two most popular artists on the jukebox were Bobby Bland and BB King, with BB scoring an easy win over Bland in respect of who had the most 45s on the `box`. These blues 45s had to compete with Motown, Atlantic and other 60s and 70s soul classics and they more than held their own, in terms of the number of plays racked up by customers. Although not a great expert on the works of BB King, I did own a copy of his first Blue Horizon album, and knew that many of these same recordings were at least 5 or 6 years old. The fact that they were still getting regular jukebox plays in late 1970 was proof positive of their popularity in the black community. I was also interested to note that out of the 20+ B.B. King sides featured, more than two thirds were on Kent rather than BB`s current label, ABC Bluesway. Now, Ace Records is pleased to present for the first time ever, a properly mastered compilation containing many of these classic 45s. Much work has gone into identifying and selecting the best quality master sources for these original mono 45 cuts. Over the years, a lot of fans have chosen to favour the earlier RPM 45s over the Kent releases. The fact that several of the Kent 45s feature original recordings that have been altered by overdubbing has undoubtedly created a prejudice in many peoples minds. My colleague Roger Armstrong, who was responsible for the pre-production of this CD, has generally concentrated on the most popular Kent 45s that utilised unsullied original masters. Certain successful 45 releases that featured obviously inappropriate rhythm or horn overdubs have been omitted, in order to enhance your listening pleasure. Conversely the later 45 release of Worry, Worry with its sublime Maxwell Davis overdubbed horn arrangements has been included. This could have been a double CD if we had chosen to include both sides of all of the Kent 45 releases. Instead Roger has concentrated on what we hope you will agree is truly a `Best Of` BB`s Kent 45s. `Kentophiles` need not spend sleepless nights, worrying about possible omissions as any missing sides will eventually see the light of day, hopefully in a more appropriate setting. It is Ace`s intention that this collection will go some way to focusing attention on the many wonderful recordings contained in BB King`s catalogue of Kent 45s. * Headliners on those shows were hometown heroes, the Stooges, supported by the wonderful Allman Brothers Band, from Macon, Georgia.

Live (Kings of Bachata Live) is the second live album released by Bachata group Aventura by Premiun Latin Music distributed by Sony Music Latin. It was recorded during the promotion concert tour for their fourth studio album God`s Project (2005). The tracks were recorded live in 3 United States locations which where New York City, Boston, and Puerto Rico. They also recorded in Dominican Republic and Colombia. It also contains a DVD with videos of the performance at Altos de Chavón in the Dominican Republic and at the Madison Square Garden theater in New York. In the first, the group played before some 6,000 people, while in the second they made history by becoming the first bachata group to sell all the tickets before the event for that venue. The album is a double-disc live album and a bonus DVD. It contains all of their greatest hits at the time, along with several skits and other between-song banter. The first disc contains five new tracks, exploring lyrics of love, romance, sex and infidelity with their typical fusions of Bachata, R&B and spanglish lyrics. The album was supported by the released of three official singles: `Los Infieles`, `Mi Corazoncito` and `El Perdedor`. Following the success of the album, it won Tropical Album of the Year, Duo or Group at the 2007 Billboard Latin Music Awards and Tropical Album of the Year at the Premios Lo Nuestro 2008. Also, the band won Best International Band at the 23th annual Soberano Awards, at the time named the Casandra Awards. K.O.B Live received generally positive reviews by the critics. K.O.B Live was a commercial success. It remained the top-selling album on the chart for 23 non-consecutive weeks in 2007 at US Tropical Albums. Eventually, it was the second best selling Latin album in the United States of 2007 and the top selling tropical album of 2007. It was certified six times platinum (Latin field) by the RIAA. All of the album singles reached the top five on the US Hot Latin Songs chart and topped the US Tropical Airplay chart. Also, it charted on the Mexican, Italian and Swiss album charts. To promote the new tracks of the album, Aventura embarked on a highly successful K.O.B Live Tour, visiting Latin America and United States, breaking some attendance records in New York and Puerto Rico.
