The Series 4 is based on Paxman's highly successful Series 3 and shares many of its characteristics. It also incorporates several features usually reserved for top level professional instruments. These include a detachable bell as standard, water key on the mouthpipe, protective nickel hand guard and nickel silver valve casings. The bell is medium large bore, the optimum for this type of instrument, made in yellow brass for a characteristic warm, yet exciting sound. The wrap is based on a Geyer style, which makes it a particularly free blowing horn. The left hand position is adjustable by means of a movable thumb lever and adjustable finger hook, to make it suitable for the younger player or adult.

The new Paxman Series 5 is a professional level instrument from the same range as the highly successful Paxman Primo and Academy horns. Following the hugely popular introduction of the Series 4 at the end of 2008, Paxman decided that the next step was to produce a professional level instrument in this range. The result is the Series 5, a horn with a yellow brass, detachable bell, professional quality valve section, hand guard, mouthpipe guard, water key and nickel silver valve casings. The bell has a similar profile to the Paxman medium bell and the leadpipe is designed to compliment this. The Series 5 is based on the UK built Paxman Model 20, with an independent Bb tuning slide. The playing style is a very responsive feel, with a rich, warm sound that is still capable of carrying to the back of the concert hall. Supplied with a rucksack style case and mouthpiece, there will always be one of these instruments to try in the Paxman showroom.
