JENO Engine (Jitter Elimination and Noise-shaping Optimization) Jitter is a major cause of distortion in digital systems, and is caused by mis-timing in the master clocks used in digital-to-analog conversion. To eliminate the degradation of sound caused by jitter, Technics has developed an original jitter reduction circuit, comprising a clock generator in the noise-shaping system to reduce jitter in the low-frequency range and a high-precision sample rate converter for suppressing jitter in the high-frequency range. Thus it reduces jitter in an ideal way over the entire frequency range. This works with a newly-developed and original high-precision PWM (Pulse Width Modulation) conversion circuit, optimizing the noise-shaping speed, the degree and requantization number, and the PWM gradation, in order to convert high-resolution signals to PWM without causing any damage to the dynamic range. These new technologies enable new Technics digital amplifier designs to reproduce the natural and delicate nuances of music. GaN-FET Driver (High-speed and Low-impedance Power Devices) In the speaker-driving section of the amplifier, Technics has employed a high-speed GaN (gallium nitride) FET driver device with super-low resistance. This enables the construction of a high-power amp using a single push-pull configuration, allowing the length of the large current carrying signal path to be shortened, and resulting in outstanding linearity regardless of the sound level. LAPC (Load Adaptive Phase Calibration) The impedance of a speaker is not constant: it varies according to frequency, thus altering the loading on an amplifier and therefore potentially the sound. Technics is able to measure an amplifier's frequency amplitude-phase characteristics with speakers connected, and has developed a speaker impedance adaptive optimization algorithm using digital signal processing to achieve ideal impulse response. Correction processing based on the new algorithm achieves a flat frequency response for both amplitude and phase, not possible in conventional amps, and delivering a sound with rich spatial expression. Technics Digital Link (Original Digital Signal Transmission) Some systems use a digital link between source component and pre-amplifier, keeping the digital signal pure as long as possible: Technics Digital Link goes further. It has eliminated the volume control function from the pre-amplifier, and instead transmits the volume control information, together with the audio signal, directly to the power amplifier in digital form. The power amp's jitter reduction circuit reduces any effect of jitter in signal transmission, then performs the volume control immediately before the PWM converter. This new sound transmission interface, Technics Digital Link, supports audio signals and also eradicates inter-channel effects by transmitting the left and right channel signals separately. Technics Digital Link has achieved an ideal amplifier configuration, minimizing any degradation between the pre-amplifier and the power amp, and resulting in superb stereo separation and reproduction of even the most subtle signals. The result is a more detailed and dynamic sound. High-speed Silent Linear Power Supply The accurate reproduction of everything from dynamic and powerful sounds to the low-level signals expressing delicate nuances requires a special power supply in an amplifier. It needs to be both powerful and low-noise, as well as capable of responding instantly to a continuously changing audio signal without any voltage fluctuation. The power supply circuit of an ordinary amp consists of a large-capacity power transformer and a rectifier circuit: after examining ways to achieve ideal voltage and current waveforms, Technics decided to use a choke-input rectification, plus a discrete stabilized power supply circuit. These technologies incorporated in the power supply circuit enable the amp to drive the speakers powerfully under any conditions. Battery Driven Clock Generator The best power supply for delicate circuitry such as the clock generator in the new amplifiers is one entirely isolated from any noise or fluctuations in the mains supply. Technics has extensive experience in circuits using battery isolation, having used them to create ultra-low-noise pre-amplifier stages in past analog amplifiers. Construction Dual Mono Construction The main amplifier layout separates the left and right channel signal paths completely, all the way back to the secondary winding on the power transformer, to prevent mutual interference and also achieve an ideal weight balance. This design gives optimal stereo separation, and also allows the two channels to be laid out in ‘mirror image’, giving equal signal-path lengths for each channel. Signal Path Minimization The length of the signal path is kept as short as possible to improve the signal to noise ratio, reduce potential sources of distortion and interference, and give the most direct communication of the music. High Rigidity Metal Double Chassis To support heavy parts and components and lower the center of gravity for improved stability, the inner chassis of the SE-R1 is made of 3-mm-thick plate, but the amplifier uses a huge, and very heavy, mains transformer: to support this better and reduce vibration, columns of die-cast aluminium are arranged at appropriate intervals between the bottom inner chassis and outer chassis. The external casing is made of a 7-mm-thick aluminium plate to resist the effect of electromagnetic noise. Both models - the SC407 and SC408 - feature a very powerful amplifier array, with one amplifier per driver. The larger woofers duplicate all frequencies up to a certain crossover frequency. The mid-range woofer picks up from there. This also means all our four-way speakers are symmetrical, as the woofers do not serve different frequency bands, but essentially duplicating the bass frequencies with an utmost preciseness. The result? Incredible bass reproduction, a very linear response, and plenty of power to shake up your main studio control room. The stylish grey plate in the middle of the speaker not only houses the midrange woofer and AMT tweeter, but it can also be rotated so that you can place your speaker vertically or horizontally. Tech Talk The SC408 is the largest four-way system monitor that EVE Audio produces and the perfect choice for larger control rooms where engineers look for the correct combination of power and precision. A pair of 8" SilverCone woofers with its glass fibre coated diaphragm in honeycomb structure and low distortion copper cap magnet system cover the frequency range from an earthshattering 32 Hz up to 250 Hz. This will guarantee you a powerful, accurate and tight bass reproduction. A sophisticated 1.5" voice coil is responsible for creating a greater linear excursion, which will give you a very clear and accurate bass. A 5" midrange unit, specially developed for SC408 uses our very low distortion copper cap magnet system and completes the system together with the Air Motion Transformer RS3 (AMT Ribbon System 3). The AMT RS3 – the same as in the SC407 model – houses a bigger magnet system to deliver a higher output level with virtually less distortion. Each driver is provided with its own PWM amplifier for a total short-term output power of 800 W. With a maximum output level of 118dB (SPL @ 1 m), there's plenty of power to keep the air moving, even in the larger control rooms. The SC408 combines a perfectly powerful bass with a transparent mid-range and crystal clear high frequency reproduction. Bass Port Design It's all in the geometry. One of the downside effects of port compression is bass distortion. As you turn up the volume, the efficiency of the port reduces and distortion will increase. We opted for a large rear rectangular port with no hard edges for our bass port designs. That's one of the reasons EVE monitors have a high efficiency on the lower frequencies. The results? High sound pressures with tight and punchy bass frequencies that don't cause port distortion. Product Description The Studio SM100 is ProAc's exciting replacement to the Studio 100 which was produced for over 20 years until 2013. Made for both domestic and studio use, the studio 100 quickly became a favourite as a near field monitor. Enhancement For the last 2 years Stewart Tyler has been working on a new speaker named the ProAc SM100 and all parameters have been improved for both studio and domestic use. It now features a new bass driver with a new surround and dust cap along with a brand new 1 inch domed tweeter and crossover network, however the cabinet remains the same. Driver Details The bass driver looks similar but has a new rubber surround for longevity and power handling and now comes in a ProAc basket. The tweeter is a new ProAc design with a 1 inch silk dome and a front plate to lower distortion, the dome has a new roll surround. In order to solve the issue of sound quality degradation due to jitter, which poses problems for conventional digital amplifiers, the SU-G700M2 has an original jitter reduction circuit that eliminates jitter over the entire audible frequency range. Also, a unique, high-precision PWM (Pulse Width Modulation) conversion circuit is used for PWM conversion, which is important for sound quality. By optimising items such as the noise-shaping speed, degree, and quantization number through our unique expertise, data even in the wide dynamic range contained in high-resolution sound sources is converted to PWM signals without loss. These technologies provide reproduction of natural and finely detailed sound, enabling perception even of delicate music nuances. Speaker impedance changes with each frequency and a power amplifier is required to drive speakers without being affected by the speaker’s characteristics. However, conventional digital amplifiers are connected to speakers through a low-pass filter at the output stage, so they are even more strongly affected by the speaker impedance characteristics. Also, although the amplitude characteristics of conventional amplifiers due to negative feedback were improved, the phase characteristics could not be enhanced. We thus developed a speaker impedance adaptive optimisation algorithm that performs correction to the ideal impulse response through digital signal processing by measuring the frequency amplitude-phase characteristics of the amplifier with the speakers connected. This new technique enables flattening the frequency characteristics of amplitude and phase, which had previously not been achieved by amplifiers, as well as delivering a sound with rich spatial expression. The power supply technology incorporated in the reference-class model SU-R1000 has been employed for improved speaker drive power and a greater feel of energy. The switching frequency has been increased from the conventional 100kHz band to the 400kHz band to ensure stable supply of voltage and current and to reduce adverse effects of modulation noise on the audio quality. The device is equipped with the same GaN FET and SiC SBD as those mounted in the SU-R1000 to deliver maximum performance from the high-speed switching power supply system. What’s more, a Super Low Noise Regulator is provided in the later stage. It prevents the decrease of regulation due to fixed switching frequency and impedes the mixing of noise component into high frequencies. The result is a low-noise and high-response power supply that maximises the performance of the digital amplifier. In integrated amplifiers there are a variety of circuits, including circuits that handle the micro-signals of inputs and those that handle a large current, such as output circuits and power-supply circuits. The SU-G700M2 uses a three-section construction with partitions installed between the circuit blocks according to the signal level handled. This eliminates interference between circuit blocks, thus achieving clear sound quality. In addition to the three-section construction, the SU-G700M2 comes with a bottom chassis featuring a two-layer construction with 1.2-mm-thick and 2-mm-thick steel plates, a top panel made of a 1.6-mm-thick steel plate and a 7-mm-thick aluminium front panel for improved vibration damping.
